Minister Reaffirms Government’s Commitment to Natural Resource Owners
The Minister for Fisheries and Forestry, Honourable Kalaveti Ravu reassured landowners of the Mataqali Vuka in the district of Macuata of Government’s commitment to bringing back prosperity for natural resource owners following a ground-breaking of a house rehabilitation and construction project for the Mataqali on Wednesday.
“It’s good to see that ITaukei’s are starting to realise and understand the value and importance of our natural resources. The Ministry doesn't own any resources, we are only here to help monitor the processes and resource utilisation,” he said.
Meanwhile, Representative of Mataqali Vuka, Setareki Sokoiwasa said the project has made possible the maintenance of 19 houses and the planned construction of three new houses for the Mataqali Vuka.
“For that, we are very grateful to the Ministry of Forestry, the Ministry of Rural and Maritime through the Provincial Administrator’s Office and other entities that made this project possible,” Mr. Sokoiwasa said.
