Staff Welcome Newly Appointed Minister for Fisheries and Forestry

Member of Parliament, Honourable Alitia Bainivalu, has been appointed as the new Minister for Fisheries and Forestry. The appointment follows the resignation of Hon. Kalaveti Ravu from the ministerial position.

Hon. Bainivalu was warmly welcomed this afternoon by the executives and staff of both the Ministry of Fisheries and the Ministry of Forestry. The official ceremony marked her return to a ministry she previously served in back in 2017.
In her speech, Hon. Bainivalu expressed her gratitude and optimism for her new role.

“I didn’t expect anything like this but thank you for the support. I see a lot of familiar faces around and also some not so familiar faces, but I hope in time we will get to know each other better,” she said.

Reflecting on her previous tenure, she added, “It’s good to be back in the Ministry. The last time I was here was in 2017.”

The new Minister emphasized the importance of collaboration and support from all levels of the ministry.

“I hope I will have all the support of the department heads and the workers in fulfilling the outcomes of the two ministries,” she stated.

Hon. Bainivalu also touched upon the government’s budget allocations for the upcoming fiscal year.

“I hope you are all satisfied with what the Government has allocated from the two ministries' budget for 2024-2025. I hope that we will all work together to fulfill all the deliverables and outcomes of the Ministry of Fisheries and Forestry,” she concluded.

The staff and executives of both ministries are looking forward to working under her leadership to achieve the goals and objectives of the Ministry for the coming years.
