Mangrove Planting Initiative at Nananu Village

In a significant step towards environmental sustainability and coastal protection, Fiji Ports Terminal Limited (FPTL) in collaboration with the Ministry of Forestry and the local community has embarked on an ambitious mangrove planting initiative.

The staff from the Ministry of Forestry’s Central Division and Fiji Ports Terminal took part in the planting event last week at Nananu Village in Tailevu.

The seedlings, purchased from Nananu community vendors, were planted with 7,000 already in the ground and the remaining 3,000 to be planted during the next wellness activity.

The planting process involved tying the seedlings to sticks provided by Fiji Ports Terminal to prevent them from washing away during high tides.

This Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative by Fiji Ports Terminal Limited highlights the importance of partnerships in achieving environmental goals.

The involvement of the local community not only supports their economy but also fosters a sense of ownership and stewardship over the coastal environment.

The Ministry appreciates FPTL for being part of Fiji's restoration efforts in mangrove ecosystems, ensuring resilience to climate change and the protection of coastal ecosystems.

The Ministry of Forestry's continuous support and collaboration in such projects underscore the government's dedication to preserving Fiji's natural resources. This mangrove planting project is expected to provide long-term benefits, including improved coastal protection against erosion and enhanced habitats for marine life.
