Sustainable Forest Management Training Empowers Youths in Ra

A week-long Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) training was held in Burelevu, Saivou, Ra, from November 18 to 22, 2024.
The training was organized by the Ministry of Forestry, Fiji in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports FIJI. The program was initiated in response to requests from local youth, aiming to foster sustainable practices within the community.
The training commenced with life skills sessions and advanced into hands-on workshops focusing on SFM and nursery establishment techniques. A highlight of the program was a half-day session on Sustainable Land Management, conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways Fiji's Land Use Department, which highlighted the interconnectedness of forestry and agriculture.
The training attracted 34 participants (15 females and 17 males) aged between 18 and 35 years, who actively engaged in the sessions. Their efforts culminated in a certificate presentation ceremony, where Mr. Setariki Namuloilagi, Director of Forestry Operations West, commended their dedication to sustainability.
Gratitude was expressed to the partner ministries for their collaborative support in making the training a success. Organizers and participants alike expressed optimism for further sustainable development initiatives within the Ra Province.
