
FORESTRY SENIOR MANAGEMENT VISIT STAKEHOLDERS
The Acting Conservator of Forests and senior management team of the Ministry of Forestry today visited two stakeholders of the Ministry - Nabou Green Energy Limited (NGEL) and Imperium Timber Facilities.
During the visit, the senior officers also had a meeting with the management of NGEL and were also briefed on the operations of Fiji’s first major independent power producer (IPP).
Discussions today were marked by a spirit of collaboration and a shared commitment to reducing our carbon footprint while making the most of our valuable wood waste resources.
The company operates a 12 megawatt biomass plant located in Sigatoka, and with the assistance of various stakeholders, they have been supplying green energy to Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) on the national grid contributing 7% covering Viti Levu.
The NGEL chief executive officer Jun Hyung Lee and Senior
Management had raised a few issues as per the way forward between the two
parties:
• Requesting
the Ministry of Forestry for the Current Forest Resources Inventory Report for
Viti Levu especially for the African Tulip
• Requesting
the Ministry of Forestry if African Tulip’s Harvesting License can be eased
from the Environmental Requirement
• Ministry
of Forestry to request or advise all Raintree Harvesting License Contractors to
clear all waste from the forest to supply Nabou Green Energy so that
Rehabilitation program inside the Coupe can be carried our properly
• Requesting
the Ministry of Forestry to initiate
government backed initiative encouraging to establish bamboo plantations
• NEGL
requests the Ministry of Forestry to regularly conduct Supervisor, Chainsaw
Operator, Log Maker, Logging Machine Operator, training and licensing programs
(Green Card)
• Request approval from the Ministry of Forestry for Clearing of Farm (Agriculture Leased Areas Only) that had been invaded African Tulips and Logs to supplied to NGEL
